What a Texas assisted living license means

Assisted living facilities in Texas are licensed by the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). A Type A facility serves residents who do not need routine attendance during sleeping hours and can follow directions in an emergency; a Type B facility is for residents who need staff help to leave the building, may not follow directions in an emergency, or need nighttime attendance. Under HHSC rules an Alzheimer's facility is a Type B facility certified to provide specialized services to residents with Alzheimer's disease or a related condition. A license shows the facility is registered and inspected by the state; it does not rate care quality or price. Ask for the current rate sheet and the admission agreement.
