How we verify
Texas Assisted Living & Memory Care Index is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.
Sources
- Texas HHSC: assisted living facilities — HHSC's page for assisted living licensing, rules and the provider directory.
- Texas HHSC provider search (TULIP) — The state's lookup for long-term care providers and their records.
- 26 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 553 — The licensing rules that define Type A, Type B, small and large facilities and Alzheimer's facilities.
We read the HHSC Directory of Assisted Living Facility Providers with an Active License (we use the file dated 30 Sept 2026). Every row in that directory has an active license, and each becomes a listing with the Licensed (HHSC) badge.
Capacity is the licensed maximum, not the number of residents. Facilities licensed for 16 or fewer are grouped as small, 17 or more as large, following the state rules. A facility is shown as Alzheimer's certified only when the directory lists an Alzheimer's certificate number and a certified capacity above zero.
We do not publish inspection, citation or complaint data; each profile links to the state's own search where that record lives. We show owner and administrator names from the directory but never email addresses.
Order within a city: licensed capacity, largest first, then alphabetical. Featured listings appear in a separate, labelled box and never change that order.
What a badge means
Licensed (HHSC): the Texas Health and Human Services Commission directory lists the facility with an active assisted living license. The badge means the license is listed; it is not a quality rating. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.
Freshness
Data was last refreshed on 2026-10-02. HHSC updates its directory regularly; we re-load it regularly.
